30 Days of Thanks – Day 7 – Today – #my68thanks

I know that not everyone is a fan of Christian music or Chris Rice, but several years ago he wrote a song called “Life Means So Much.” I sang it as a part of a series we did at a previous church. It’s a great picture of what a gift we have each day.

There are a lot of people who have died who wished they had just one more day. There was something they wanted to do, someone they needed to talk to, someone they wanted to tell that they loved them. They just needed one more day. But they didn’t have it.

What I hope we realize is that “every day is a gift” we’ve been given and we need to make the most of every minute we’re given. This is something I’ve wrote and talked about a lot in other places, but we can’t just let life happen to us, we have to happen to our life. And the way we happen to our life is to start with today. We start with the gift we’ve been given this day. And then we do the same thing tomorrow.

And the great thing about it is, we all have the same gift. When it comes to days, we are all equals. There is no rich or poor. There is no one who gets more hours in a day than another. Everyone gets the same allotment. It’s what we do with those days that makes all the difference.

So, today, let’s be thankful for today. Because every day is a gift from God.

Every day is a journal page
Every man holds a quill and ink
And there’s plenty of room for writing in
All we do is believe and think
So will you compose a curse
Or will today bring the blessing
Fill the page with rhyming verse
Or some random sketching

Teach us to count the days
Teach us to make the days count
Lead us in better ways
That somehow our souls forgot
Life means so much
Life means so much
Life means so much

Every day is a bank account
And time is our currency
So nobody’s rich, nobody’s poor
We get 24 hours each
So how are you gonna spend
Will you invest, or squander
Try to get ahead
Or help someone who’s under

Teach us to count the days
Teach us to make the days count
Lead us in better ways
That somehow our souls forgot
Life means so much
Life means so much
Life means so much

Has anybody ever lived who knew the value of a life
And don’t you think giving is all
What proves the worth of yours and mine

Teach us to count the days
Teach us to make the days count
Lead us in better ways
That somehow our souls forgot
Life means so much

Every day is a gift you’ve been given
Make the most of the time every minute you’re living
