Pray Through Pentecost – Day 15

Have I Mentioned…

…that you really should read the book of Acts. These things really happened, yo! If you’ve wondered about what a real move of God looks like, you should devour this book.

They called on God for miraculous deliverances.

So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church . . . When he realized [he had been freed], he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying (Acts 12:5,12).

But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake (Acts 16:25-26).

We have situations like this we could and should be praying for today. There are preachers of the Gospel who are being held in prison because of their message. For example, Pastor Saeed Abedini, (http://www.idahostatesman.com/2013/04/26/2552397/trying-to-save-saeed.html). Can you imagine how awesome it would be if we started praying for Pastor Saeed in the same way the early church prayed for Peter, Paul & Silas when they were in prison? We don’t see it the same as they did, I guess because we don’t see Saeed as our pastor, but as he is a minister of the gospel, don’t you think we should be praying for him to be released? And wouldn’t it be amazing if he was released in the same way?

I wish we could truly grasp the huge vision that God has for our lives and for our church. Why am I so consumed with that? Because, when we start building our faith and acting in our faith, amazing things can happen. Wouldn’t it be amazing to be a part of a church that experienced the power of God at work in their midst in ways like we have discussed through this series?

But you might ask, how can you be sure that God will move in such a way? I’m sure because of all the evidence we have seen in scripture. I’m sure because he has a mission for us to accomplish and if we truly get to the point where our mission is whatever mission he gives us, I’m convinced that he will provide all the power and resources we need to accomplish that mission. When we start to step out in faith that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do, we will begin to see Him move in ways that only He can move. But that takes faith. God requires it of us.

By the way, is it really faith if we never act on it?

What do we need to do now as a church to be ready for what God has for us next.

Pray for God to show us the role we will play individually in accomplishing that mission.

The Conclusion

Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
