In Every Decision

It’s easy to think that our need for discernment only refers to the spiritual decisions we make in our lives. But, what we don’t realize is that every decision affects our spiritual being. That’s why we need to call on God for a mind of discernment.

They called on God for a mind of discernment.

And I pray this, that your love may abound even more and more in knowledge and every kind of insight 10 so that you can decide what is best, and thus be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God. (Phil 1:9-10)

Every kind of insight. Not just spiritual insights, but every kind of insight. In every decision we make, we want the knowledge and insight to be something that comes from Christ. We want our decision to be what is best for us both personally and spiritually. In fact, we need to stop making any kind of distinction between our physical body and spiritual body. We are told to Love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, body and strength.

It is out of this Love that every decision should be made. Should I talk to that person? Should I spend this money? Should I go to this event? Should I take this job? Should I be this kind of a parent? Should I be this kind of spouse? Every decision we make should be made out of the Love that we live.

When we truly Love Christ with all our being, then we can start making decisions and thinking in the right way. So, let’s pray for a mind of discernment. But let’s not stop there, let’s turn over more and more of our lives to Love Christ. Let’s pray that Love would abound in our hearts and that through that love, everything else will come.

Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
