God calls us to believe beyond…
God doesn’t ask us to do what only He can do. But He does ask us to believe beyond what we are capable of doing and seeing. And sometimes, we need God to help us with our unbelief and give us a greater faith.
They called on God for greater faith.
“Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).
“…that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love…” – (Eph 3:17)
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith like this:
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.”
Sure of what we hope for. Convinced of what we do not see.
I believe there is a much greater life we all could be living. The problem is, we’re too determined to do it on our own so we can take credit for it. I don’t know why we so desperately need the credit. Isn’t the point to live a life that is totally and completely surrendered to God? And as we live that life, He does stuff in and through our lives in a way that only He can do. But, when we need to get the credit for whatever happens in our lives, we limit what God can do.
Don’t hear me wrong. I don’t think we can limit God. And I know that there are times when God has done things in my life even though I wasn’t ready for Him to do it. But He needed it done, and He did it.
What I’m saying is, if we truly want to see God do things in our lives that are beyond our own ability and beyond our ability to believe them into existence, we have to be in a place where He can do it because we’ve given Him access. When we’re not in surrender, when we force God to work within a box of our expected and approved ways in which He can work, He doesn’t actually have the access to our lives.
We also need to be in place that we can give God the credit for what He does in our lives. If we’re going to take the credit for it, I wonder how willing God is going to be to do what only He can do. He wants to do tremendous things in our lives so that He can get glory for Himself. Not so we can lie and take credit for His working.
Since faith is being sure and convinced, we have to believe beyond. We don’t just believe up to the point that we can see God at work – we believe beyond it. We don’t just believe in the abilities He’s already given us, we believe beyond our own abilities and on God’s abilities – which are limitless. We don’t just believe in our own ability to reason and think through a situation to it’s logical conclusion, we believe in a God whose logic is greater and wiser and beyond our own ability.
We have to believe beyond. There has to be something beyond what we can see, beyond what we can ask, beyond what we can imagine. If there isn’t and we only rely on our own abilities, we will never see God do what only He can do – because we won’t let Him. Will you let God be God?

What do we need to do now as a church to be ready for what God has for us next.
“What’s My Role” Prayer
Pray for God to show us the role we will play individually in accomplishing that mission.
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
