Sometimes life dries out around us faster than we can keep up with: relationships fraying at the edges, responsibilities piling up, and a culture that feels more dehydrated than hopeful. Jesus knew that feeling. On His way to the Cross, He walked through a world dried out by fear, power, and pride. And yet—He called Himself the green tree (Luke 23:31).

The women wept, the soldiers mocked, the rulers sneered, and the crowds watched without understanding. Everyone had something to say about Him, something to do to Him. None of it was deserved. Still, Jesus remained steady, rooted, alive—like a tree that refuses to die even when the landscape around it has become dust.

You might feel like people have done things to you too. It may be unfair, unexpected, or deeply painful. But Jesus didn’t just endure these things for you—He endured them as an example for you. His green-ness isn’t merely salvation. It’s an invitation.

If Jesus can be the green tree in a dry world, then through Him, you can too. Not by pretending everything is fine. Not by muscle or denial. But by staying rooted in the One who never dries out.

Today, just notice the dryness around you—and then notice the presence of Jesus in you. The green tree is not far away. He’s as close as breath.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where have you felt the “dryness” of the world most strongly lately?
  2. What might it look like for Jesus to keep your soul green right there?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the green tree in my dry world. Root my heart in You today so I can stay alive and hopeful. Help me notice Your presence in every place I feel worn down.
