Laughing is a good thing. We don’t do nearly enough of it. We’re too serious for too much of the time. Myself included.
The bible weighs in on the topic. The word laughter appears quite often in the Bible.
Psalm 126:1-3 says:
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things for us;
we are glad.
I’ll be the first to tell you that what we do as a church is very important. But, that doesn’t mean that it has to be done super seriously all the time. We shouldn’t be known as the walking dead church. We shouldn’t be known as heartless and lifeless, as those who don’t know how to laugh. We are not disconnected from all things funny when we become a follower of Christ. Actually, I think we ought to be some of the happiest people on earth.
Why? Because just like we read in Psalm 126, the Lord has restored us. We are now like those who have the ability to dream. We aren’t hopeless and listless. We have a hope, we have a dream, we have a future. The Lord has done GREAT things for us. We are glad because the Lord has done great things. So, our tongues should be filled with shouts of joy and our mouths filled with laughter.
