We are going to hear from Paul today about death. That is, the death in which we used to live. We often say, our former selves, or who we used to be. The question we ask today, though, is: Do we really understand what the old, dead version of ourselves was? And do we know the ways in which that version of us still affects us today.

For far too many of us, when we accepted Christ, we didn’t change much of our behavior. We just brought our fallen and corrupted way of thinking into this new life. And we find ourselves constantly frustrated because we’re banging our heads on the wall. We’re trying to live a new life without changing our old way of thinking!

What we need to do is learn to identify the areas of our lives that corruption still has a hold on us. To do that, we need to know how corruption works.

And that’s exactly what we’re looking at today.
