When Jesus first began teaching during His public ministry, he was given the scroll of Isaiah and he opened to this famous passage:
“The Spirit of the Lord us on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set the oppressed free
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-29
Luke is setting this up as Jesus’ mission statement for His public ministry. The question comes, Is Jesus only talking about the literal prisoners or could there be more to it than that?
This is in fact what is good about Jesus’ message.
