Control often feels like wisdom. It feels adult. It feels safe. When the future is uncertain, doing something feels better than waiting.

But control has a hidden cost. It slowly replaces trust while convincing us we’re still being faithful. We’re still praying, still believing, still showing up—we’re just gripping the steering wheel tighter than we realize.

God’s path rarely removes risk. Instead, it invites relationship. Control promises certainty but delivers exhaustion. Trust asks for surrender but produces peace.

Today isn’t about letting go of responsibility. It’s about letting go of the illusion that we were ever in control to begin with.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where are you most tempted to take control instead of trust?
  • What has control promised you—and what has it actually delivered?

Prayer:
God, I confess how often I trust my control more than Your care. Help me loosen my grip and rest in You today. Amen.
