Steven Furtick is the Pastor of Elevation Church in North Carolina. He wrote the book “Sun Stand Still” which our last sermon series was based on. (If you haven’t shared your Sun Stand Still prayer with us, yet, we’d still love to join with you in praying for that!)

The story of Elevation Church is amazing. You should go check them out online sometime. But, what’s significant about them for us is a story I heard Pastor Steven share a couple of years ago at a leadership conference at Willow Creek Church. When the church was just 10-12 people, they got a Baptism Highlight DVD from Willow Creek Church. In that video, Willow Creek baptized thousands of people. And that video served as a goal for their church. That was something they set their eyes and hearts on.

And now, they have had weekends where they baptize thousands of people at once. Simply put – Amazing.

So what? Why should we care about what’s happening at another church? Because our mission is IDENTICAL! Sure, we may use different words, but they all stem from the same mission Jesus gave us – go into the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That’s our mission! That’s why we’re here, that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing. This is the point. This is the reason. This is the purpose. This is the mission we need to live our lives on.

And that’s why I want you to watch this video. The thing is, I don’t just want you to watch a video. What I want, what I pray for, what I deeply desire for you and me and everyone of us at SixEight is that we would want this so badly for our church that is keeps us up at night. That we would catch a vision for what God wants to do in us and through us in our community, and we would shape our lives around doing everything we possible can to achieve that mission. What we would see the Sun Stand Still in Hazel Dell as thousands upon thousands of lives come to Christ.

It won’t happen by accident. It won’t happen by sitting on the couch and watching TV. It won’t happen by watching this video. The only way it will happen is if we all get out and live our lives on mission.

So, don’t just watch this video as another form of entertainment. Don’t just enjoy the cinematography and music. Let this video be a picture. Let this video begin a dream. Let this video build a vision. Let this video shape the mission of your life.

Don’t just watch this video. Picture yourself in it. Picture yourself as on of those clapping in the hallway as people are on their way to get baptized. Picture yourself as on of those giving high fives as they line up for the baptismal. Picture yourself as the one who invited them to church on that day so they could hear about Jesus and experience his grace for the first time.

And picture your 8 to 15 as those being baptized. Think of their faces and their names in place of the people you see on the screen.

Don’t just watch this video because it’s cool. Watch it because it’s what God wants us (and every church) to be about. If you watch it like that, it just might ruin your life.
