Woh, woh, woh, woh, woh. Isn’t that a big no-no for a church to “take Christ out of Christmas? Xmas? Seriously?”
Okay, hang on, don’t call the papers! (does anyone read those anymore?)
Did you know that the origination of Xmas was with the church in the 16th century? And it was the church who did it. People have actually been using X to abbreviate for Christ as far back as 1,000 AD. That’s because X comes from the greek letter chi which is the start of Christ.
So, we’re actually putting the X back in Xmas. Or something like that. Oh, and sometimes church people get too worked up about things. I was one of them, so I know.
Anyway, we’re having a fun community Christmas party on Sunday, December 22nd @ 10am at the church. We’re going to have a free brunch. We’ll finish with a Christmas goodie exchange. In between we’ll have some fun and games, some crafts and ornament making for the kids. Oh and the Wassail. It’s amazing! It’s worth it to come just for that!
“I’ll bet you’re trying to lure me there so you can try to scare me into coming to your church.”
We get why you would think that. And I’m sorry if you’ve gone to church and that has happened. There won’t be a sermon, no high pressure sales tactics, no bartering for your soul or whatever you may fear. It’s seriously just a party.
Why? Because we love our community. We love the people of Hazel Dell, Fruit Valley, Lakeshore, Felida, Salmon Creek and the greater Vancouver area. So, we wanted to do something fun for the community.
That, and we’ve noticed that everyone’s gotten kind of stressed out lately with everything everyone’s got going on. So, we thought a fun little time-out might help.
WARNING! We will be wearing ugly Christmas sweaters. So, don’t wear your favorite Christmas sweater that you think is beautiful, someone WILL say something. 🙂
Reasons NOT to come:
- You don’t like Christmas Music
- You don’t like good food
- You don’t like nice people
- You don’t like having fun.
- You’re on a cattle boat heading for Europe.
If none of those sound like you, this is for you!
Yes, there may be some “spreading of Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear.” But, if you don’t like to sing, you can just shove some snacks in your mouth and pretend to be chewing.
So, should you come?Â
Yeah, we kind of think it would be fun to have you there!
Check out the event on Facebook, and let us know you’re coming. Spread the word if you don’t mind!
